A compilation of all I’ve learned about using Facebook so far.

  • Content for Facebook is very different to SEO optimized content for websites
    • Content for Facebook should be light-hearted, entertainment-based, quizzes work
    • No heavy subjects
    • For a standard niche website, you probably need to create a new page/post template or style of article to make it better suited for sharing on Facebook
      • Listicles (e.g. 10 best / 10 worst)
      • A vs B articles
      • Emotional stories
  • Most traffic comes from viral content
  • Niche of the Facebook page is very important
  • Facebook ads for the first 10k followers
    • Page like ad on the Facebook platform
    • Don’t ever buy likes from third parties
    • Try about 10 different formats to get your cost per like down
      • Goal is to stop the scroll of the user
      • No stock photos
      • Arrows work
    • Aim for around 5 cents or lower per follower
    • Interests targeting
    • Limit your ad spending to about 10€ a day otherwise your costs per like will probably increase
  • You have to post a lot to reach high traffic
    • 3 to 4 articles per day
    • Cycle through content after 30 day period
  • Get people to disagree in the comments for increased post reach and traffic
  • Find a Facebook page in your niche, copy 25 of their post titles, paste them to ChatGPT and prompt “Give me 30 more ideas for viral Facebook posts I can create.” or something along those lines
  • The title is very important
  • Image is very important because it effectively stops the scroll
    • You can use AI for this
  • Put sharing buttons on the bottom of the pages of the posts from your website you’re linking on Facebook
  • Links should not be in the Facebook post itself but in the comment to avoid a penalty to the reach
  • Analyze what content works (by reach) by using data because it can be counterintuitive
  • Posts with a certain “sketchiness” tend to perform
  • The problem with Facebook groups is that you need to interact with the community
  • Posts to Facebook pages can be highly automated with the scheduler; try the CSV upload
  • Recycle/reuse posts
  • Scaling content on your website is probably going to be the biggest challenge
  • Have multiple Facebook pages in the same niche for the best results
  • Don’t try to game the system
    • Respect the TOS
    • Only white hat methods
    • Be wary of copyright issues, especially with music in videos
  • Evaluate success
    • First 3 months: Status posts and memes for page health, don’t worry about generating traffic for your website
    • Months 3 to 6: You should start to see some traffic with 6 to 8 links to posts per day
  • Your RPM is probably going to be similar to your SEO efforts
    • Click arbitrage is best case scenario: You’re paying less for clicks on Facebook than you are earning from ads or affiliate links on your website
  • Facebook pairs well with Pinterest and email lists
  • If you are lost, copy successful pages
