Learning How to Use DaVinci Resolve

A compilation of all I’ve learned about using DaVinci Resolve so far.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • You can customize your keyboard shortcuts by going to DaVinci Resolve in the top left corner and clicking Keyboard Customization
  • Turn snapping on/off: S
  • Trim Mode: T
  • Selection Mode: V
  • Toggle enable/disable: D
  • Select clips forward one track: Y
  • Select clips back one track: CTRL + Y
  • Select clips forward all tracks: ALT + Y
  • Select clips back all tracks: ALT + CTRL + Y

Edit Timeline Navigation

  • Zoom in: CTRL +
  • Zoom out: CTRL –
  • Horizontal scroll: CTRL + Mousewheel

Playhead and Clip Movements

  • Move playhead one frame later: Right Arrow
  • Move playhead one second later: Shift + Right Arrow
  • Move playhead one frame earlier: Left Arrow
  • Move playhead one second earlier: Shift + Left Arrow
  • Move playhead to end of the clip: Down Arrow
  • Move playhead to start of the clip: Up Arrow
  • Nudge clip one frame later: .
  • Nudge clip one frame earlier: ,
  • Nudge clip 5 frames later: Shift + .
  • Nudge clip 5 frames earlier: Shift + ,

Ripple Based Editing

  • Cut clip at playhead: CTRL + B
  • Delete selection: Backspace
  • Ripple delete selection (backs up following clips to the previous clip): Delete
  • Ripple trim end to playhead: Shift + CTRL + ]
  • Ripple trim start to playhead: Shift + CTRL + [

Copy & Paste Attributes

  • Copy: CTRL + C
  • Paste attributes: ALT + V

Linked Audio & Video

  • Temporarily unlink clips: ALT + Select clip
