Learning How to Use Instagram

A compilation of all I’ve learned about using Instagram so far.

Profile

  • Picture is really important
    • Face or punchy logo
  • Use your brand in the name section of your account
  • Bio:
    • First line: What you do in 5 words or less
      • Example: “Helping […] do […]”
    • Second line: Social proof
    • Third line: Call to Action
  • Use the link section of your profile

Posts

  • Ask people to save your content
  • Example: “Comment […] and we will send you more info on that topic.”
  • Example: “More in the caption.”
    • “Here’s everything you need to know about …”
  • The first line of the caption is essential.
  • Do not sell in video -> Watch time goes down dramatically
  • Don’t use third-party schedulers
  • Publishing checklist for videos:
    • Upload video
    • Preview video
    • (Add cover for video)
    • Have a hook in the caption
    • Add one topic
    • Don’t add a location -> You usually don’t want localization

Stories

  • Go heavy on stories, treat it like a newsletter
  • Links in stories drastically reduce the reach
    • Links might be shared via DM automation
      • Tool: ManyChat
      • You can expect about a 90% open rate and a CTR between 40% and 65%

Image Sizes

  • Grid: Aspect ratio of 4:5
  • Story: 1080px x 1920px (aspect ratio of 9:16)
